The general public sometimes believes that snorkeling is difficult. There are many sticking points : breathing isn't natural with a snorkel and you might view the mouthpiece as uncomfortable and unhygienic. A mask's field of vision is relatively narrow, and when the mask fogs up, you don’t get the best experience of the amazing underwater world. This led the Subea design teams to revolutionize snorkeling by developing the world's first full face snorkeling mask, so you can see and breathe in water as easily as on land. The SUBEA Easybreath mask is suitable for the entire family (children from 10 years old).Purchase at Decathlon
Easybreath, the world's first full-face snorkelling mask. Finally available for kids from the age of 6 to see and breathe underwater just like on dry land !
With sizing adapted to the morphology of the face of children from 6 to 10 years old and a new patent about snorkel (dry-top release system), Easybreath Junior becames more comfortable and adapted for the safety of the youngest.Purchase at Decathlon
The 180° panoramic view provides perfect visibility. Fogging is totally eliminated thanks to a double air flow. To stop water from entering the snorkel, the Easybreath mask is equipped with a mechanism that seals the top of the snorkel when submerged. The submerged part of the snorkel is coloured orange, making it more visible.
Based on this observation, the Easybreath project was born. We set ourselves the objective of alleviating these problems and developing a product that would encourage hundreds of thousands people to experience the marvels of the underwater world with us.
Once this need had been detected, the challenge was to bring this idea to life.
Only by developing various 'monsters' and testing the design was the design team able to develop the Easybreath that we know today.
Functional prototypes with sometimes unlikely designs provide the team with first-hand knowledge and a chance to develop their opinions on products.
Nearly 50 test protocols and trials were necessary to develop this mask. Most of these tests were conducted in our Decathlon research and development centre. Mask prototype (or "monster") 1 is a non-functional scale model that illustrates the concept of the full face mask with integrated snorkel.
Mask prototype (or "monster") #1 is a non-functional scale model that illustrates the concept of the full face mask with integrated snorkel.
After the initial tests on "monster" #2, the design team noted some anomalies caused by its curved glass which created vision disturbances and nausea. For prototype #3, the field of vision was improved. The anomalies were resolved by replacing the curved glass with flat glass. However this version did not solve the fogging issue. For prototype #4, the teams concentrated their efforts on air flow in order to resolve the fogging problem. Many adjustments were needed to find a solution that wouldn't affect breathing and vision comfort. The last prototype (#5) is is fully functional and includes part of the final design. The design of the glass, which is so characteristic of the Easybreath, and certain aesthetic aspects were adjusted and then validated with this version. It has the same characteristics as the product now available in the store, #6.
