WHAT DO YOU DO AT SUBEA ?

What's your background ?

I'm the product engineer for Subea footwear, so I've been working with the entire range of fins and aqua shoes since January 2016. The main mission of a product engineer is design. After getting usage specifications from the product manager, in order to come up with a response, we have to come up with a product, while working with the designer. We make "monsters", we test our concept and once it's validated, we think about ways to develop this concept into a product. The designer then makes a 2D model that's turned into a 3D model to be sent to the suppliers.

WHAT'S YOUR MOST BEAUTIFUL MEMORY OF AN UNDERWATER EXPERIENCE ?

My best memory was a night dive when I went down to 65 m in the Goubet Al-Kharab hole, or "Devil's Hole", which is a fairly well-known spot in Djibouti. It's an underwater volcanic fault, and there's a drop-off down to 4,000 metres, full of sharks ... There have been a lot of legends about divers who disappeared there, so it was an experience with quite a bit of adrenaline and a bit of scary ...
