SNORKELING FINS

Think flexible and light. Certain snorkeling fins are multi-purpose and you can use them to start out in snorkeling, diving and even a little bit of freediving.

SCUBA DIVING FINS

Scuba diving fins are of variable length and flexibility. When choosing, remember that the longer and more rigid they are, the more your muscles will have to work to move them, but they'll be more powerful! For the rest, it's up to you to choose between adjustable fins, to be worn with suitable booties, or full-foot fins.

SPEARFISHING AND FREEDIVING FINS

In freediving and spearfishing, you need long, ribbed fins. Very rigid, these fins move you around powerfully but these XXL models are delicate to handle and really fragile.

SNORKELING FINS

As a general rule, fins for snorkeling are flexible and light. They have small blades which make it easier to move around on the surface. They are full-foot fins. Certain snorkeling fins are multi-purpose and you can use them to start out in snorkeling, diving and even a little bit of freediving.

ADJUSTABLE DIVING FINS

Diving fins are designed to give you more power in the water because the weight and volume of the equipment make you less hydrodynamic. Fins come in variable lengths and flexibility depending on the components used. When choosing your diving fins, remember that the longer and more rigid they are, the harder your muscles will have to work to move them... however, on the other hand they'll be more powerful! Adjustable fins for scuba diving are quite rigid and this makes them less comfortable, but very easy to put on! However, adjustable fins must be used with suitable booties!

FULL-FOOT DIVING FINS

Diving fins are designed to give you more power in the water because the weight and volume of the equipment make you less hydrodynamic. Fins come in variable lengths and flexibility depending on the components used. When choosing your diving fins, remember that the longer and more rigid they are, the harder your muscles will have to work to move them... however, on the other hand they'll be more powerful! Full-foot scuba diving fins are perfect to swim in warm waters with bare feet or thin shoes. They're generally more flexible and more comfortable than adjustable fins, they also give better performance as they fit your foot well. Just one downside: they're not easy to put on, and sometimes more fragile.

FINS FOR SPEARFISHING AND FREEDIVING

In spearfishing and freediving, you'll need long, ribbed fins. Being very rigid, they'll move you forward powerfully. What's more, their power is proportional to their length and also depends on the materials used to make them. The blades on these fins are thereby made of plastic polymers or carbon to make them more powerful and lighter. Beware: these XXL models are delicate to handle and more fragile!

FINDING THE RIGHT SIZE OF DIVING FINS

Subea tip!

How do you know if you've chosen fins of the right size? Put them on and stand on tiptoe. Your fin should stay on your heel and come off the ground with it.
- If your heel goes up but your fins stay down, then they're too big.
- If they feel tight, try the next size up, although you might have to wear aqua shoes to compensate! This will also protect you from blisters and the cold...
